Smile-O-Mat

Smiling and Drinking…
A relationship as old as time.
When we were asked to make an installation for our partner agency’s cocktail event, we created this interactive bar-top companion, the Smile-O-Mat.
Stand in front of it, Smile as hard as you can and the Smile-O-Mat would reward you with a shot.
Using an HD webcam connected to a computer which used Emotin API face recognition to analyse the emotions of the user, we were able to display, the strength of the user’s smile on an RGB led strip, encouraging them to smile their way to a complimentary beverage.
Once the user reached the extreme smile needed to unlock the shot, our installation used a standard servo motor to turn a circular tray which put the drink in front of the dispensing hole at the front of the machine.
